About Me

This is me...
My name is Eytan Corech (Eytan is the Hebrew name Ethan, meaning Strong One ); I'm in my mid forties, living in a small pastoral village in Israel, and in the last few years have been creating lampwork beads in my backyard studio.

I have spent most of my adult life in the exact sciences area , and for the last 15 years have been working as a software development engineer for a global high tech corporation called Amdocs.

A few years ago, I have decided to slow down a little my work pace (or in other words', quit the Rat Race) and developed an interest in crafts. Thankfully this has been my midlife crisis. Glass immediately captivated me . I don't think that I have ever encountered material that is as beautiful, transparent, shiny and colorful as glass.

I started working with cold glass, creating glass- mosaic items: coffee tables, mirrors with glass mosaic frames, glass mosaic box covering etc. During this time, I got to know Israeli artists who were working with hot glass and creating lampwork beads. Their work has fascinated me.

I was taught the basic technique of lampwork in winter 2006 by Yasmin Sivan, an Israeli lampwork beadmaking artiste. I also participated during the summer of 2006 in Michaela Moller's advanced seminar for beadmaking which took place at the Glass Furnace, an international glass school located in the beautiful city of Istanbul, Turkey.

This is me... At the beginning of 2007 I learned the basic of glass fusing. A glass fusing is technic where you melting glass in a big kiln to create decorative tools, colorful images and small statue. I was taught the basic technique Studio Strasbourg in Raanana Israel. In the summer of 2007 I returned to the Glass Furnace School to participated in Rene Culler's advanced seminar in Glass Fussing and Kiln Casting.

In 2006, I joined a group called Self Representing Artist, a group of glass artists who are dedicated to the art of lampworking. The members of the group work at home in their own studios, making beads, marbles and other glass objects one at a time. Patiently and carefully we strive for perfection in every object that we make. One of the group's greatest challenges is finding ways to introduce our art to the people who may wish to own it, and to educate our potential customers about the uniqueness and quality of our work.
